3D printing: technology, machines and their cost estimation

3D printing is a process of making 3D objects from a computer-aided design (CAD) model by adding layer by layer over each other in a defined pattern to build a definite structure. This technique of adding one layer of material after another is called additive manufacturing (AM).AM is responsible for the solidification of 3D objects. This process is highly intensive and effective for creating complex objects over a short period of time and especially when the bulk of that is not needed.

Working

Modeling  and slicing

The most basic but significant step is of creating or taking access to the 3D model with the help of a 3D scanner , haptic device or 3D scanner and CAD software.
After that, your next step would be to prepare the file for your 3D printer that’s also called as slicing from 3D model to 3D printer file. This slicing software divides the 3D model into numerous layers horizontally after that you are ready for the next step. For slicing, there are many software externally but most of the 3D printers have built-in slicers.

Printing process

Now it’s the turn to choose the material of which object will be printed. The material should be appropriate for your objects and satisfying your needs. There is a broad range of materials which we can be fed in our printer, out of which some are plastics, ceramics, resigns, sand, lunar dust and more
After selecting  the material you are now moved towards last step in which you  check orientation, size and final preview of our model and after that your printer starts printing.

Finishing

Now your object’s model is ready but not to deliver or use, before delivering it had to be sanded or painted for getting a final product.

The material you use for your project will determine the printing method.

Some methods are listed below

IF WE USE PLASTIC the methods are
  • FDM(fused deposition modeling) technology
  • SLS TECHNOLOGY

IF WE USSE WAX
  • Digital light processing (DLP)
  • Multijet printers

IF WE USE METALS
  • DLP
  • Electron beam melting (EBM)

IF WE USE MULTI COLOUR
  • Binder jetting
  • Triple jetting technology ( polyjet )

The automotive industry, aviation industry, health sector, artificial products, aerospace, bioprinting, complex models, small machinery parts, these all are some fields in which 3D printing is establishing its roots.

One could buy a 3D printer from any trustful e-commerce site. The product range starts from 150k and even quiet more.
